Arrange Three-Digit Numbers in Ascending Order

Introduction

In this activity, we will be putting numbers in order, starting with the smallest and ending with the largest.

This is called ascending order.

Example

Put the numbers in ascending order.

469541931518

Answer

Look at the hundreds place first.

469 is the smallest because it has the smallest hundreds digit.

Next we compare 541 and 518.

They both have a 5 in the hundreds place, so we look at the tens place and see that 518 is smaller than 541.

931 is the largest because 931 has the largest hundreds digit.

In ascending order the numbers go:

1.2.3.4.
469518541931
